Bicaz Gorge–Hășmaș National Park is one of the most spectacular natural areas in Romania, located on the border between Neamț and Harghita counties. The park is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, shaped by vertical limestone cliffs, narrow gorges, deep ravines, and unique karst formations.
One of the most famous attractions is Red Lake, the largest natural dam lake in the country, formed in 1838 following the collapse of part of Ghilcoș (Ucigaș) Mountain. The spruce trunks that still rise from the water give the lake a distinctive appearance and turn it into a symbol of the Eastern Carpathians.
The area is ideal for hiking, climbing, photography, and nature observation. The Bicaz Gorges, with walls over 300 meters high, represent one of the most impressive karst landscapes in Romania. The park hosts rich biodiversity, including rare plant species and animals such as the brown bear, chamois, and golden eagle.

Vânători–Neamț Natural Park is one of the most valuable natural areas in northern Moldavia, located in the forested region between Târgu Neamț and the monasteries of Neamț. The park harmoniously combines vast forests, gentle sub-Carpathian relief, and the area’s cultural traditions, forming a unique space in Romania.
One of the park’s emblematic features is the “Dragoș Vodă” Bison Reservation. A large-scale conservation program for the European bison is carried out here—a species that had disappeared from Romania’s fauna for several centuries. Today, visitors can observe bison in semi-wild conditions and learn more about efforts to reintroduce this species into natural ecosystems.
In addition to bison, the park is home to a rich fauna: deer, roe deer, wild boar, bears, wolves, and numerous bird species specific to hill forests. The vegetation is diverse, with beech, oak, and coniferous forests, bright meadows, and wetlands that support rich biodiversity.
The park is crossed by thematic routes and hiking trails that allow visitors to explore both nature and the nearby cultural heritage: the monasteries of Agapia, Văratec, Sihăstria, and Secu, Neamț Fortress, as well as the “Mihail Sadoveanu” Memorial House in the village of Vânători Neamț.
Thus, Vânători–Neamț Natural Park represents a destination where nature, history, and spirituality complement each other, offering a complex and memorable experience.
